Analogies

Following Synonyms and Antonyms from Monday, today we will be working on Analogies.

An analogy is a comparison between two things or word pairs where each pair has a similar relationship. The words within a pair may be antonyms, for example, or show a cause-and-effect relationship. It is typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification.

Example: “One day as I watched my class beginning to get ready for class work, I thought that they were like : computers booting up in the computer room, at different speeds, with different CPU’s.

Analogies are useful when communicating a ‘fuzzy’ or blurry topic which a reader couldn’t otherwise understand- as in an abstract term or concept such as sharing.
