Robert D. San Souci

Setting: Medieval England

King Uther of Britain is joyful at the birth of his son Arthur. Sadly, his wife dies soon after, and his kingdom is at war. Uther gives Arthur to Merlin the magician to raise in safety. Soon after, the king is poisoned and dies. Arthur grows up in Sir Ector’s household with Sir Ector’s son, Kay. Arthur learns to be a knight. When Arthur is grown, Merlin calls the nobles together. He places a sword in a stone. Whoever can pull the sword from the stone will be the rightful king of England. Sir Ector, Kay, and Arthur go to London for a tournament. Kay needs a sword, and Arthur pulls the sword from the stone to give to him. When Kay realizes what sword it is, he claims he has pulled it out. Merlin reappears and says that the true king can place the sword back in the stone and pull it out again.
